Our Committees 

Brush Up Buffalo is an all volunteer organization whose Board of Directors has set up a Steering Committee to oversee operations, and create and manage subcommittees that perform and manage vital operational roles.

Our Steering Committees (and their respective Chairpersons)

Housing - Identifies neighborhoods with the appropriate mix of single family, owner-occupied homes that fit the Brush Up Buffalo profile; analyzes applications and verifies information; markets applications to target homeowners and works with the Marketing Committee to create awareness about program; matches homes with volunteer teams.

Chairpeople: Roseann Scibilia and Tony Astran

 

Hospitality - Identifies and solicits in-kind donations and/or discounted food and other products for kick-off breakfast and day of event meals. Coordinates pick-up/drop-off of hospitality supplies with Boy Scouts or other hospitality team volunteers, and distribution to houses and the staging site for breakfast and lunch on day of event.

Insurance - Arranges insurance coverage for volunteer protection and temporary liability coverage for homeowners whose homes are the subject of the Brush Up Buffalo event.

Chairperson: Jessie Baldwin

 

Sponsorships - Identifies and solicits contributions from public and private sector Western New York and State of New York funding sources that include corporations, government agencies, and foundations.

Chairperson: Mike DeWind

 

PR/Marketing - Writes press releases, maintains media awareness of pre-event and day of event information; coordinates interviews with radio, tv and print media; coordinates design of t-shirt and print production. Also keeps Web site up to date.

Volunteer Development - Identifies members of community to serve on steering committees, the Board of Directors and in other capacities within the organization; marketing to other groups to increase awareness through such community resources as United Way volunteer match Web site; Erie County Commission on the Status of Women board volunteer Web site; Leadership Buffalo; Buffalo Jaycees; and other groups.

Team Development - Recruits, identifies, solicits volunteer teams from diverse sources - businesses, community groups, public and private sector; distributes team leader handbook; collect liability release forms; distribute t-shirts; and works with the Housing Committee to match teams to houses.

Operations - Works with our Operations partner to line up equipment rentals; procures paint and supplies, and coordinates deliveries to houses; works with Union Painters to identify matches for houses and their role; works with the Buffalo Police Dept. to coordinate day of event presence, and with the City of Buffalo regarding sanitation and other services.
