Our Committees 

Brush Up Buffalo is an all volunteer organization whose Board of Directors has set up a Steering Committee to oversee operations, and create and manage subcommittees that perform and manage vital operational roles.

Subcommittee Descriptions and Chairpeople

Housing - Identifies neighborhoods with the appropriate mix of single-family, owner-occupied homes that fit the Brush Up Buffalo profile. Analyzes applications and verifies information. Markets applications to target homeowners and works with the PR/Marketing Subcommittee to create awareness about program. Works with homeowners to communicate plans and choose appropriate color schemes. Helps Volunteer and Team Development Subcommittee to match homes with volunteer teams. Hosts homeowner planning event with Volunteer and Team Development Subcommittee chair.

Chairperson: Roseann Scibilia

 

Hospitality - Identifies and solicits in-kind donations and/or discounted food and other products for pre-planning events and day-of-event hospitality needs. Calculates food needs based on volunteer levels, order and purchase food and work with suppliers to organize delivery. Coordinates supply needs and event volunteers to assist with tents, tables, chairs, grills, drinks and food. Distributes thank-you letters to hospitality donors.

Insurance - Arranges insurance coverage for volunteer protection and temporary liability coverage for homeowners whose homes are the subject of the Brush Up Buffalo event.

Chairpeople: Jesse Baldwin and Jen Falt

 

Sponsorships - Identifies and solicits contributions from public and private sector Western New York and New York State funding sources, including corporations, government agencies and foundations.

Chairperson: Mike DeWind

 

PR/Marketing - Writes and distributes publicity materials to generate media awareness of pre-event and day-of-event activities. Coordinates interviews with radio, television, online and print media. Coordinates design of t-shirt and print production. Regularly refreshes website content. Manages Brush Up Buffalo's social networking pages. Creates and distributes e-mail blasts to volunteers.  

Chairperson: Tony Astran 

 

Volunteer and Team Development - Recruits, identifies, and solicits volunteer team leaders and members from diverse sources, such as businesses, community groups, and the public and private sector. Updates and distributes team leader handbook. Collects liability release signatures. Distributes volunteer t-shirts. Works with the Housing Subcommittee to match teams to houses. Hosts homeowner and team leader planning meetings with Housing and Operations Subcommittee chairs. Coordinates day-of-event registration and transportation of volunteers from the staging site to homes.

Chairperson: Melissa Grainger

 

Operations - Manages equipment rentals. Procures paint and supplies, and coordinates deliveries to houses. Works with union painters to identify matches for houses and their day-of-event roles. Works with the Buffalo Police Department to coordinate day-of-event presence, and with the City of Buffalo regarding sanitation and other services. Monitors overall financial activity for Brush Up Buffalo.
